Platz 1/144 T-6 Texan

History
The USA delivered 200 T-6 Texans to Japan up to 1954. They were initially operated by the Safety Security Force and the National Safety Force. Upon the formation of the JASDF and the JMSDF they were operated  by those organisations instead. After the arrival of the T-1 they were gradually withdrawn and returned to the USA.

The Kit
The top opening box contains 2 models in separate bags. There are 2 sprues for each kit, 1 in grey plastic and the other clear. There is also a stand for each kit. The clear sprue and the stand are in their own bag inside the main bag for each kit.

This is another collaboration between F-Toys and Platz. The instructions are a single piece of paper folded to give 4 pages. Page 1 is the usual safety warnings and a brief overview of the aircraft. Pages 2 and 3 are colour and decal instructions, colours being referenced in Mr Color and Testors/Model Master ranges. Page 4 is the assembly instructions and parts list. Being a single engine aircraft in 1/144 scale, there are not many parts; 18 with undercarriage down and a few less if you put it on the stand with the wheels up. The molding is up to Platz’s usual high standards, which is as good as anything on the market. The decal sheet is by Cartograf and is very compact and detailed, there’s a lot of decals on there, and in 1/144 some of them are pretty tiny. There are 7 decal options, 1 in silver and 6 in chrome yellow. Six of the options are from the in service years of the 50s and 60s and one option is from a museum in 2014.

Conclusion
This is an interesting kit, high in detail, colour and options. It has a nice price and would be a couple of quick builds. Ideal for the younger modelers among us – they might need a hand with the compact decal sheet though.
