Iliad Design 1/48 Decals Schlact Bf 109Es
Iliad Design has previously released sheets of 109 Fs and Gs and now they have a sheet of 109Es too. This sheet is specifically about fighter-bomber Schlact 109Es, an area that is not covered too well.
The decal set arrived form Iliad decals in a stout cardboard envelope. The subjects of this sheet are:
- Bf 109E-4B, II./SG1, Russia, 1942
- Bf 109E-7 Trop, 7./ZG1, near El Alamein, August 1942
- Bf 109E-4B, II. (Schl)/LG2, Russia, summer 1941
- Bf 109E-4B, II./LG2, Russia, 1941
- Bf 109E-4B, 6.(Schl)/LG2, France, 1940
- Bf 109E-4B, 5.(Schl)/LG2, Russia, 1941
The set contains just the aircraft specific decals and you would use any stencils from the kit you’re using. You will be able to make all 6 aircraft though – if you have 6 kits available!
The contents of this set are:
- 1 double-sided colour sheet of instructions
- 1 21 cm x 14 cm decal sheet
The instruction sheet is well done and covers everything you need to know. The front of the instruction sheet shows the port sides of all 6 aircraft and a short description of them all. It names all the colours used as well as giving you individual details about each particular aircraft, such as the non-standard balkenkreuz used on “S9 DR” and the repair made to “U” that removed some of the starboard fuselage balkenkreuz. The reverse of the sheet shows the top view of each aircraft and a view of the underneath the wings. The “S9 DR” aircraft is particularly interesting as it had a replacement starboard wing in a completely different camouflage scheme to the rest of the aircraft. The information shows a good level of research has been carried out.
The decal sheets, as you can see in the photographs and the video, are perfectly in register and the colours look good too. The backing film is minimal to non-existent except in places where it is needed to line things up in the text.
This set is available for $12.00 from Iliad Design’s site.
This is a very nice decal set with some attractive options for aircraft that will look different to the other Bf 109Es on the shelf. “S9 DR” is my favourite.
Many thanks to Iliad Design for the review sample.
