DXM 1/48 Mirage 2000C Tiger Meet 2009
This decal sheet, 71-4230, contains decals for one aircraft:
- 103-YR, French Air Force EC 1/12, Tiger Meet 2009, Kleine Brogel, Belgium.”Terminator Tiger”
The decals arrived from DXM Decals in an envelope clearly marked ‘Do Not Bend’. Inside the envelope, the decals were secured between 2 pieces of cardboard. The decals themselves are in a self-sealing plastic bag, with a tab at the top for hanging the bag on a sales rack in a store. There’s plenty of space in the bag so getting the decals in and out is not a problem. The bottom folds up over the bag and has a sticky stripe on it to seal it. I found that the sticky strip tends to stick to everything, so I folded the sticky tab back on itself and sealed the bag with a second, smaller, piece of tape. This way I can put things back inside the bag a lot easier. Inside the bag are:
- One A4/Letter sized, double-sided, colour sheet of decal placement instructions.
- Two large decal sheets. (15cm x 21cm)
The instruction sheet uses one-half of one side for the cover. If you open the sheet you will see the port, starboard and underneath views of the aircraft. The paints used are called out in Mr. Color and Humbrol reference numbers. The left and right views of the aircraft make it clear that there is an order to apply the decals. Basically, you start at the back and work your way forward as you join the decals together. The back side of the instructions shows a top view of the aircraft. On here it makes it clear that decal M1 is to be applied after the left and right decals have been applied. You also get a couple of blocks of spare decals in orange and silver just in case you find yourself with a little gap somewhere.
The decals themselves are by Cartograph, so the quality is, of course, splendid. The amount of additional carrier film seems to be almost non-existent. The decals themselves look very thin, in register, and the colours seem good too. I scanned the sheet at a high resolution, and all the text is readable. All in all, everything we have come to expect from Cartograph. One of the small sheets contains lo-viz stars and bars, the second is for the anti-glare panel on the nose of one of the aircraft and the third is a section of formation light coloured sheet that you can cut from to use for the formation lights.
To summarize, this is an excellent quality, highly detailed decal sheet. This set is comprehensive, clearly laid out and the instructions are easy to understand. Overall, this a good quality set and woudl look impressive on your shelf.
